RCMP traffic service units and detachments throughout the province will target enforcement in these two areas during the month of October by increasing vigilance during special check stops and during regular patrols.
"Our aim is to remind the driving public not only that wearing a seatbelt and using child restraints reduce serious injury and death, but also that it’s the law," Assistant Commisioner Bill Robinson, RCMP D Division Manitoba’s commanding officer, said in a statement today.
1. As an adult, I should be able to choose whether I want to wear a seat belt or not, I don't need a mommy government telling me what to do.
2. With all of the recent violent crime and special investigative units set-up and complaints about their not being enough cops, I love that police focus on victimless crimes such as these and show that what they really care about is revenue generation, not in catching bad guys.
3. "It's the Law" - I don't give a damn. It's also "the law" in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, section 9 "Everyone has the right not to be arbitrarily detained or imprisoned." Seems they don't care about breaking that one with these random check stops.
