On October 5th I noticed that AshtonCampaign was now following me on Twitter. I admit I was somewhat surprised to see this, considering how critical I was of him, and how most of my tweets have to do with examples of the ineptness of government. Here is the exchange of tweets between myself and whoever is running AshtonCampaign.

Oct 5 9:44AM Steve Ashtons campaign is now following my tweets, strange. Did they read the article I wrote where I called him an idiot?

Oct 5 9:13PM @AshtonCampaign You're running a campaign for Premier and you call me names? I'm not your monkey, grow up.
Soon afterward, AshtonCampaign stopped following my tweets.
While I certainly did not intend to make friends with my original post about Ashton's proposed legislation, I'll admit I wasn't expecting to be called someone's monkey, especially by the campaign of a currently sitting MLA and possibly next Premier of Manitoba!
Perhaps Steve Ashton should have some concern as to who is running the social media aspect of his campaign, and educate them on decorum and maturity. Sure, I called him an idiot (it was hyperbole intended to make the point about the Dignity Act he proposes which may make it a crime to do something like that) and he is a public figure, he chooses to be a public figure, I am a lowly blogger, certainly not deserving of such attention.
Well AshtonCampaign, you have my attention. Steve Ashton will be a special project for me for the next few weeks and if he wins the NDP leadership and becomes Premier, for the next several years. I will go through his proposals, show how flawed they are, and point out how he is another clueless politician that panders to special interest groups to buy votes, who will reward his friends and punish his enemies.
I sent this e-mail off today off to contact@steveashtonforpremier.ca, will they respond to my challenge? I doubt it. Any response will be posted here on Freedom Manitoba.
Hello, this is Scott with the Freedom Manitoba blog.
The admin of the Steve Ashton campaign twitter account recently called me a few names, which I speculate is because of a blog post I wrote where I criticized Mr. Ashtons "Dignity" legislation.

While I find it immature for the campaign of a potential Premier to address a lowly blogger such as myself in such a manner, I also find it amusing.
I would like to invite Mr. Ashton to engage in a one-on-one interview with me that would be posted on youtube and disseminated by various media contacts that I have relationships with. I assure you that I would be professional (I have worked in the media industry for over 10 years) but I would also ask hard questions. Is Mr. Ashton up to the challenge?

"Hyperbolic Squawk Monkey"? Actually, that's pretty funny. I like it. Better than "Crasher Squirrel."
You called him an idiot in your blog, somebody in his campaign called you a squawk monkey. Welcome to democracy 2.0, my friend.
The internet (Twitter and Google especially) gives you a soapbox to call the potential premier a name and put it out there for all to see, and you earn yourself a cute little label in return from one of Ashton's volunteers.
Works for me. Don't try to prove the label by making more of it than it deserves.
Isn't it funny that if you were black and he called you a monkey it would be racist? Still, for someone trying to sucker in supporters with discrimination solutions it seems hypocritical that he would fling off a comment like that.
