Uganda Proposes Sick Anti-Homosexual Legislation
Yes, this isn't a Manitoba issue, but I bring it up to demonstrate the urgent need to keep politics and religion seperate in every aspect of our lives. In addition to being a libertarian, I am also agnostic, and I am greatly opposed to the mixing of government and religion because there is much evidence that it results in tyranny.
For example, proposed legilsation in the Sudan.
Wow. Yep, just kill them off those evil doers, that will stop it! But it doesn’t end there unfortunately.
This legislation is supported by local religious leaders. The only reason this legislation exists is because of religious ideas and the demonizing of homosexuals.
Banning things doesn't make them go away, illegal drugs are the perfect example of that, so what this does is drive it further underground and make the behavior more dangerous.
Hey, think you might have HIV? Well, instead of getting tested and entering into treatment, you will now be executed for testing positive. Think anyone will ever get tested? This would actually lead to further the spread of HIV in Africa, which already has an HIV/AIDS epidemic. This is yet another example of the unintended consequences of government action, and the evil it does in the world.

For example, proposed legilsation in the Sudan.
• Gays and lesbians convicted of having gay sex would be sentenced, at minimum, to life in prison
• People who test positive for HIV may be executed
• Homosexuals who have sex with a minor, or engage in homosexual sex more than once, may also receive the death penalty
• The bill forbids the “promotion of homosexuality,” which in effect bans organizations working in HIV and AIDS prevention
• Anyone who knows of homosexual activity taking place but does not report it would risk up to three years in prison

It applies even to Ugandans participating in same-sex acts in countries where such behavior is legal.
“They are supposed to be brought back to Uganda and convicted here. The government is putting homosexuality on the level of treason,” Mugisha said.
Lawmakers have indicated that they will pass the bill before year’s end.
