4.20 in Winnipeg

*note After making this post and reviewing the video I just noticed that the length of the video is 4:20 LOL. A complete coincidence I promise you.

About 3000 people were at the Manitoba Legislature grounds yesterday openly defying the prohibition on marijuana. Below is a video I put together from the event where I talked to several people.

There are about a dozen police officers observing, and honestly they were wasting their time. It was a peaceful protest, I can only imagine what it would have been like if there were 3000 people there getting drunk instead of getting high.

The one failure with this protest is that everyone I asked about legalization of other drugs besides pot were not in favor of it. The most common point I was told for the legalization of marijuana was that is wasn't "a drug", that it was "natural" and comes from the ground, or it wasn't as bad as other substances like alcohol or tobacco. I don't think these arguments are very valid since the range of what is good or bad for you is somewhat subjective, and pot isn't illegal because it's "bad" for you, it's because of government protection for certain industries to prevent competition for their products. Just because something grows in the ground and is present in nature doesn't mean it's good for you or less harmful that other manufactured substances, poison oak is natural.

To see my arguments for legalization of marijuana, and essentially all drugs, check out this post, Legalize It.

I don't think most of those people were there to "protest" anything per se as so much as they were there to smoke weed in a public place.
You should post more.

"as they were there to smoke weed in a public place."

Agreed. It was more like a picnic :)

"You should post more."

I have several twitter posts a day, blog posts are a little harder to do time wise, but I will make an effort to be more consistent. Thanks for reading.
