Child Welfare, Another thing the Government Sucks at

Some recent news stories about the state of child welfare in Manitoba;

All of these stories were published in the last few days.

How sad, how pathetic.

The problem here is that government is involved in child "welfare" in the first place. The government is made up of unaccountable bureaucrats, when they screw up there is largely no consequences for them. So when they take an Aboriginal child from it's white foster parents and place it with a not-so-great Aboriginal caregiver because of political bull-shit, and that child ends ups dead, are there any consequences for that case worker that made the bad decision? Or for the people that run the system for their failed, racist policies?

No, none.

The answer here is to get government out of the child welfare business, leave it up to families, communities, churches and private organizations that actually are accountable and that actually care about the welfare of children, not just collecting a paycheck.

This amounts to nothing more than legalized kidnapping....amd kidnappers should be shot.

The government is currently failing miserably. But, eliminating the government from child welfare completely would be a mistake. Who takes care of it when there is child abuse? If you put it in the hands of the community, the government is obligated, now that they have no say over child welfare, to keep the abused child with the abusive parents.

Yes, checks and balances need to be in place. Government agencies need to be run by people who are elected to position to allow for better oversight and accountability. But removing the government all together from child welfare would be a big mistake.
