Yes, it doesn't make a difference, and this is why...
It doesn't change the system, and the system is the problem. Shuffling a few people in and out of different positions does not change anything significant. Perhaps if a whole city council was replaced by new people it might make some impact, but they are still part of a system of threats and coercion.
Tonight there were elections all around Manitoba and I saw plenty of people posting on FaceBook how they are allowed to have an opinion because they voted, thereby implying that people that don't vote don't get to have an opinion.
I call Bullshit on that.
First, as long as these government people take my money I have a right to an opinion.
Secondly, these people act like voting is something to be revered.
It isn't, it is largely ineffective.
For example, Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz won his third term as mayor. Business as usual there, so nothing is going to "change".
And what a surprise, all 11 incumbent Winnipeg councillors were re-elected, so again we have the status quo.
It is effectively the same as if everyone would have stayed home, except that people lost productive time standing in line to check a little box that ended up having a net result of 0.
And really, the majority of people don't vote. I don't just mean general population including underage people, I mean only 48 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot.
So to those people who value the democratic process and majority rule that voted today, you are in the minority, so you are wrong.
I leave you with the words of George Carlin.

Nice post Scott.
George says it all. Stayed away from the election in St Clements where the sitting council was doing battle against the "group of seven" that's right, I even have the pamphlet the council sent out. The group is spreading outrageous lies about over spending...bla bla bla....zzzz. Haven't checked the news here today but I'm assuming status quo as well. Only thing is the council here actually appears to be doing things and attracting development.
Well I look forward to a lengthy 'study' of the Amber time issue and probably more pros and cons of rapid vs fast bus transit.
Speaking of no change, did you see Sam's new gal pal, talk about a Bailie look alike. I had to do a double take as I thought they were back together. I know that comment is so TMZ but couldn't help myself.
